Summer School Topics

Are you planning to teach summer school? I have enjoyed teaching adult ESL during the summer several times and want to encourage you. Summer school is more relaxed. We often had class outside.

Summer School gives ESL teachers the opportunity to introduce a variety of unique topics such as baseball games, garage sales, farmers’ markets, farm stands, flea markets, community gardens, bicycle safety, beach safety, boat safety, and lighthouses (I live in Michigan). Encourage students to attend free concerts and plays in the park, local festivals, reenactments, and the county/State fair. Teach about holidays like Flag Day-June 14, Juneteenth-June 19, the Summer Solstice-June 21, and Independence Day. In addition, you can take field trips to gardens, museums, and workplaces. Happy Teaching!
